Banks Unions’ firm to strike on August 22

New Delhi, Aug 21 (KNN) The Indian Banks’ Association has clarified that it is firm to go on a strike on August 22 over various issues and demands.

The bank unions – UFBU that is workmen associations - AIBEA, NNCBE, INBEF, BEFI, NOBW and Officers’ Associations – AIBOC, INBOC, AIBOA, NOBO -have decided to go ahead with a nationwide strike following the conciliation meeting convened on Friday by Chief Labour Commissioner AK Nayak not yielding any tangible results on their demands.

Talks between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the unions held in Mumbai last week, to avert the nationwide strike, had also failed.

In a notification, IBA said, “At IBA level, efforts are being made to avert the proposed strike. In case the strike materializes, the working of the banks where the constituent Unions/ Associations have majority membership may get affected...”

IBA added that as a precaution, all concerned are requested to transact their business in advance/ use alternate channels of banking facilities to avoid inconvenience to the extent possible.
