Glitches in GSTN - Eway Bill continue to trouble industry: Report

New Delhi, Feb 20 (KNN) The industry is sincerely concerned with the cumbersome and glitch ridden process of GST whether it is related to filing return or generating an e-way bill, a report by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) revealed.

"It’s been seven months, since its implementation but there is no sigh of relief for industrialist", it informed

According to FICCI survey reports, respondents of the survey highlighted the several issues related to robustness and volume handling capacity of GST.

Problems like delayed reflection of updated data as well as payments, delays in process of input credit set offs, inability to upload heavy files of certain formats and lack of provision to modify or revise errors has become a great challenge for businesses and now has become a serious matter of concern also.

As per the survey reports, suggestions has been made by respondents for making GST portal efficient.

“Major revamp of the portal is necessary and provisions should be available for auto set off the liability against available credit” said the respondents during the survey.

59% respondents of the survey were MSME firms whereas 41% were large firms.

Another burning issues raised by respondents was the cumbersome procedures and documentation for filing of returns.

“Monthly filing of GST return has been alleged as a cumbersome procedure” said FICCI.

78% of the respondents suggested that the periodicity of filing return should be changed from monthly to quarterly for those taxpayers having a total turnover above Rs 1.5 crore.

FICCI mentioned that the multiplicity of registration poses a serious concern for service providers as for every state, the separate registration is now required where service is being provided.

Further, problems related to issue of e-way bills are also troubling traders. E-way bill is an electronically generated document required for the movement of goods of more than Rs 50,000 from one place to another.

Respondents also highlighted the implementation issues related to introduction of e-way bill. Current limit of 10 km for updating details of goods on the portal respondents find it inadequate.

It was also suggested that the minimum limit for e-way bill requirement should be increased to 50 km and within the city limits e-way bill requirement should not be there for moving the goods from one place to other.

Small businesses who participated in the survey felt that e-way bill should not be introduced as it is an additional compliance requirement and all details of sale and purchase were already available on the portal.(KNN/YV)
