Bringing 29 handicraft items under 0 per cent GST positive for sector: Gram Seva Sangh
New Delhi, Jan 19 (KNN) The GST council on Thursday announced brining 29 handicraft items under the zero per cent tax slab, responding to which the group that has been protesting against the high tax rate- Gram Seva Sangh has welcomed the government’s decision.
Abhilash, Convenor of the Gram Seva Sangh said that the decision taken by the finance ministry to bring the handicrafts under zero per cent GST is favourable one for the sector.
“We are happy that 29 handicraft items have been brought under 0 per cent GST. This is a positive step in right direction”, the release from Sangh said.
Sangh however maintained that as far as GST Denial struggle is concerned, it was only one of the steps towards achieving better value for the Handmade.
“The Satyagraha will continue to achieve better value for the handmade”, the release further said.
Abhilash informed that in the previous taxation, there was no levy on theatres as a form of handicraft, but GST has come as a whammy for the sector.
He explained that theatre is an art and is performed by hands, therefore it must be considered a part of the handmade-handloom sector and the government must consider exemption. (KNN/ DA)
