New Delhi, Jan 12 (KNN) The e-way bill system will be rolled out across the country from February 1, 2018, the Goods & Services Tax Network (GSTN) said today.

E Way Bill is an electronically generated document required to be generated for the movement of goods of value more than Rs 50,000 between states.

Transporters and manufacturers have the facility to use the E-Way Bill on a trial basis till the end of the month before it is rolled out on a compulsory basis across the country from February 1.

“The e-way bill system has already been rolled out in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Kerala, which are together generating nearly 1.4 lakh e-way bills every day. The remaining states will join over the next fortnight,” GSTN said.

The GST Council in a meeting last month had decided to roll it out from February to check tax evasion.

Prakash Kumar, CEO, GSTN said there is no need to visit any tax office to generate it as the new system enables generation of E-Way Bill on the portal, through the mobile App, SMS and for large users using the offline tool.
