New Delhi, Dec 16 (KNN) The GST Council, headed by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley took a call over the implementation of the E-Way Bill system under the Goods and Services Tax in the country.

The Ministry of Finance in a statement said that the office in view of the readiness of hardware and software required for the e-way bill system, it has decided to roll out nationwide e-way bill on a trial basis for the initial period starting from 16^th January, welcoming traders and transporters to use it on a voluntary basis.

The Rules for implementation of nationwide e-way Bill system for Inter-State movement of goods on a compulsory basis will be notified with effect from 1st February, 2018, the release from the Ministry said.

Also with regard to the inter-state and intra-state implementation, the Finance Ministry informed that the States may choose their own timings for implementation of e-way Bill for intra-State movement of goods on any date before 1st June, 2018, June being the deadline to implement. (KNN/ DA)
