GST: Relief for industry, tax department to go easy during July-Dec

New Delhi, July 19 (KNN) Coming as a big relief for the industry, the initial six months will be given as a breather for the industry to settle in under the newly implemented Goods and Services Tax (GST).  The announcement was made by Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) Chairperson Vanaja Sarna recently.

Sarna acknowledged that it takes time for any new move to become a part of routine, therefore the CBEC has given instructions to go slow in cases where there are errors in complying with GST for the initial three to six months.

She further said that the GST implementation hasn’t been free of glitches; therefore it is important to go easy to encourage smoother transition into the new tax regime.

The CBEC chief also informed that the social media account of CBEC on twitter is actively engaged in addressing the queries pertaining to GST with a count of almost 13,000 queries per day on an average.

Also the different sectoral groups including a dedicated group for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) were formed earlier to look into sector specific concerns. These reports are in the initial phase of examination, Sarna added.

Sarna informed about these developments during a press meet at an event organized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). (KNN/ DA)
