Rita Teaotia chairs first task force meeting on e-commerce policy

New Delhi, July 7 (KNN) Taking a step forward towards national e-commerce policy framework, the first task force meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia in the national capital.

The meeting deliberated upon various issues and suggestion related to cross border data flows, taxation, trade facilitation and logistics, consumer confidence, IPR and future tech, FDI and competition issues.

In the first meeting of think tank that was held on April 24, 2018, it was decided to set up a Task Force on the framework for national policy on e-commerce under the chairmanship of Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation.

The Task Force was further divided into nine sub-groups for preparing recommendations for India’s national policy on e-commerce.

Working towards this, the sub group meeting was held during June 20-22nd, 2018 where the members made some suggestions.

Deliberating upon these suggestions in the first task force meeting, it was decided to submit these recommendations to the think tank for consideration.

The sub-groups saw participation from various ministries and departments,high level representatives from the industry bodies, e-commerce companies, telecommunication and IT companies and independent experts.

In the first task force meeting senior officers of the Ministries of MSME, Consumer Affairs, Electronics and Information Technology, Corporate Affairs and Department of Telecommunications, Competition Commission of India and DGFT were present.
