Upgrade of ease of doing business ranking of India do not enthuse MSMEs

New Delhi, Nov 1 (KNN) India has stormed in the rank of  first 100 countries of world best for doing business, responding to the new rank, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises aren't very enthused by the new position in the World Bank's report.

The World Bank in its annual report has upgraded India’s ranking by 30 points, from 130 to 100. But does it really mean that life will be easy for Indian MSMEs all over the country.

While both  Arun Jaitley and DIPP Secretary Ramesh Abhishek have announced that the improvement in ranking will surely make doing business sassier for  MSMEs, the stakeholders differ.

Talking with KNN, Dinesh Singhal, a noted entrepreneur of Meerut and past President of FISME, quipped that even at a distance of 60 km from Delhi, it is far from reality at Meerut.

He also mentioned that while a lot of regulatory controls dealt by the central government has been streamlined, situation is same even worse in many states.

Singhal also rued that even in areas like regulatory clearances for construction the processes are much time consuming and costly in U P, in comparison with , say, Gujarat.

Actually a casual glance to the state level ease of doing business ranking released by the Government shows, that the performances of states vary widely.

And it must be remembered that small entrepreneurs cannot move around to states who offer the best facilities like large enterprises.

As MSMEs are generally grounded to the states where they  originate, the facilities at the point of business is important for MSMEs.

And most of the regulatory clearances at the grass root level depend on the state and local authorities.

And in the opinion of the experts the efficiencies of the regulatory authorities b go down from the centre to states to the local authorities.

A glaring example is the quality of roads, an essential requirement for any industry.

And just compare the condition of roads maintained by the central agencies with those maintained by local bodies.

So the MSMEs will now look at the centre to spread the enthusiasm of better regulatory environment among the states also so that the things improve not only on paper but on the ground. (KNN/DB)
