WPI inflation eases to 2.60 per cent as compared to 3.24 per cent of the previous month: Data

New Delhi, Oct 16 (KNN) The annual wholesale price inflation eased to 2.6 per cent in the month of September in comparison with the provisional 3.24 per cent in the from the moth of August, data from Ministry of Commerce and Industry revealed.

The revision in the figures as compared to the figures from the previous month comes as a response to smaller increase in food prices.

Commenting on the inflation figures, the data informed that the annual rate of inflation, WPI stood at 2.60 per cent for the month of September in comparison to 3.24 per cent of the previous month. The data from the corresponding month of the previous year stood at 1.36 per cent.

The data further read that the build up inflation rate in the financial year so far stood at 0.97 per cent in comparison to the build up rate of 3.44 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Citing figures, the data informed that the index of Primary articles declined by over 3 per cent amounting to 130.8(provisional) from the 134.9(provisional) for the previous month.

Referring to the manufactured products, the data informed that index for this major group rose by 0.4 percent to 113.4 (provisional) from 112.9 (provisional) for the previous month.

Whereas fuel and power group of the index registered a rise from 1.7 per cent making the figure 90.7(provisional) from the 89.2(provisional) figure from the previous month.

The data also informed that the rate of inflation based on WPI Food Index consisting of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles group and ‘Food Product’ from Manufactured Products group decreased from 4.41% in August, 2017 to 1.99% in September, 2017. (With PIB Inputs) (KNN/DA)
