New Delhi, Apr 20 (KNN) The Indian government, industry, innovators, academia and other stakeholder must work collaboratively to meet its Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) as part of the post-2020 climate actions.

Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the guest at the event said that at a time when the entire world is looking towards India as an emerging economic power, India’s action on climate change can serve as an example for many other countries.

She said this during an industry interactive session organized by FICCI.

Espinosa further said that addressing climate change doesn’t mean to give up developmental aspirations. Businesses in the country should take this as an opportunity to improve the utilization of the national resources in order to enhance the overall competitiveness in the country.

“We must explore ways to match wealth as well as the well-being of the nation” she emphasized.

Naina Lal Kidwai, President, FICCI, Chair, FICCI Sustainability, Energy & Water Council and Chairman, Max Financial Services highlighted the need to support the MSMEs in their journey to step up in the action against climate change

She further said that the MSMEs in India must look at the industries in the developed countries and study their models that they are implementing and emerge as responsible sustainable sector.

Kidwai said that the existing scenario indicates a huge development deficit with a vast section of the population deprived of basic needs such as electricity, water and sanitation. In this scenario, widespread sectoral innovations and business models under a paradigm to address the development deficit is crucial to addressing the climate change problem she further explained.
