India and Afghanistan sign a joint venture agreement for import of Saffron from Afghanistan

New Delhi, July 14 (KNN) A Joint Venture agreement was signed between two trading companies Red Gold of Afghanistan and Generous Treasures of India for import of Saffron from Afghanistan and retailing it in India under new brand.

The two countries India and Afghanistan signed the agreement at an inaugural ceremony of two day meet titled ‘’MADE IN AFGHANISAN: NATURE'S BEST’ which opened in New Delhi  on July 13, 2018.

This two-day exhibition was organized by Afghanistan in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Roots of Peace which showcases Afghanistan’s finest fruits, nuts and spices.

The Afghan company plans to export about 250 KG of saffron to India worth US $ two million in the first year of joint venture.

Inaugurating the event Dr. Shaida Mohammad Abdali, the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan welcomed the Afghan traders to India and acknowledged USAID”s initiative in reinforcing this exhibition and for choosing best title for the exhibition.

Speaking at the occasion, Ajmal Ahmadi, Economic Advisor to President Ghani of Afghanistan said that more than 100 flights have been conducted between the India and Afghanistan and transported 2500 metric tonnes of goods since the start of Kabul -New Delhi and Kabul-Mumbai air corridor.

He said that most of the goods transported from Afghanistan include dry fruits and nuts, spices, Fresh Fruits, medicinal plants and handicrafts.

To create stronger connectivity between two nations, he said “Afghanistan plans to establish air corridor connection with more Indian cities, other than New Delhi and Mumbai.”

More than 50 Afghan export firms delegation have come to India to explore business relationship and to showcase their products.
