Malaysian SME chamber lends support to CICU food clusters in India

New Delhi, Mar 17 (KNN) In a meeting with Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) and Malaysian SME chamber, Malaysia promised to support CICU food clusters in India.

18 CEOs from Malaysia and other prominent members attended the meeting.

Sh.Upkar Singh Ahuja, President Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU), said that Food production in India is only 7% as compared to other Asian countries like Malaysia-73%, Thailand-72%, Philippines-78% and it is growing at about 5% per year, with dairy, bakery etc.

He attributed growth in these countries to better technologies, New Machines, Better Packaging ideas, storage of food and Govt. support by various Schemes/Subsidies.

Ahuja further said that CICU formed a food cluster and regularly follows the schemes of Ministry of Food Processing and Industries, Government of India for new technologies, Machines and Packaging idea.

Pankaj Sharma, General Secretary, CICU and Sh. J.S Bhogal, Publicity Secretary, CICU said that Functional food and ingredient segment is currently growing annually at a very slow rate.

He said that food production industry needs to implement new technologies and good packaging in order to boost youth employment especially women at home.

In the concluding remarks they added that it is a urgent need of an hour that government come forward and take necessary steps to enhance the farmer self-esteem and grasp consumer faith, Awards & Recognition for New Product development, Good Packing, Innovative Marketing practice.

Also Ministry should provide official space and warehousing space in prominent foreign cities for food processing industry that will help to fetch more value and promote growth. (KNN/YV)
