Government invites Belgian investors to come and Make in India

New Delhi, Nov 9 (KNN) India on Wednesday invited Belgian Industry to explore the Investment opportunities in the country during Belgian King Philippe's maiden state visit to India, organized by CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and Belgium's Wallonia Trade and Investment Agency.

The King was accompanied by his wife and business delegation of around 90 people comprising of CEOs of Belgian companies.

Addressing the seminar Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy (DIPP) Secretary Ramesh Abhishek said that India had climbed 30 places in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business rankings for 2017.

The secretary said that DIPP had been putting efforts to facilitate foreign business in the country.

Highlighting the reforms by the Indian government Ramesh Abhishek said that government had also abolished the Foreign Investment Promotion Board, which used to earlier screen FDI proposals for approval and DIPP had built up an Investment Promotion Board which had been currently assisting in 500 specific deals worth $80 billion.

Commenting on Belgium’s booming economy Minister-President of the Walloon Government Willy Borsus said that Belgium had a history of specialization, particularly in the infrastructure industries and had Europe's largest steel industry and the most dense railway network in the world in terms of per person/km.

India is Belgium's second largest export destination and third largest trade partner outside the European Union. The bilateral trade between the two countries was worth $13.28 billion during last financial year.

King Philippe also attended the India-Belgium Business Forum organized by CII. (With PIB inputs) (KNN/AG)
