AICTE considering to make internships mandatory for engineering students

New Delhi, Jan 29 (KNN) Starting this year, AICTE is considering to make internships mandatory for engineering students to facilitate practical training apart from theory based studies.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced a model curriculum for engineering students with the objective to gain practical knowledge, focus of this curriculum will also be on moral education.

Thus B.tech students credit point have been reduced from 220 to 160, out of which 14 credit points will be for internships whether full time or part time, one credit point include 40-45 hours work.

Practical training will be given to students after second semester in summer vacations for 4 to 6 weeks.

Period of internship will be 4 to 6 weeks after fourth semester in summer vacation either in govt sector or non govt sector.

After 6th semester, internship will be of  4 to 6 week again which include project work.

Also in 8th semester, the students will be asked to undertake project work along with training with higher institution, government, non government, start-up or internship with MSMEs.

Commenting over the latest development AICTE Chairman Anil D Sahastrabuddhe said that with the norm in place, the students will get a chance to gain practical knowledge as well as experience”.

Apart from mandating internships for engineering students, the council has also prepared model curriculum for management students. (KNN/YV)
