Kerala launches study on exports to map the present status, suggest measures to boost MSME sector

Kochi, Jan 20 (KNN) A study report on the ‘Export Competitiveness of Kerala’ has been launched which concentrates on the aspects of encouraging MSME sector, creating more employment opportunities as well as assisting farmers to get a better price for their produce.

The study has been prepared jointly by The Federation of Indian Export Organisations and KSIDC and was released by the State Industries Minister AC Moideen.

The study has been carried out in the context of the State losing its dominance in some of the major agricultural exports sector.

The study elaborated in the current state of exports from the state and suggested policy measures to help enhance Kerala’s export competitiveness.

The products from the state has been classified into high, medium and low growth depending on the global demand and recommends various initiatives to encourage exports.

According to the study, Kerala is the 7th largest exporting State with a contribution of $4.8 billion during 2015-16. The study charted out a road map for Kerala to achieve a of 5 per cent share in the country’s exports in the next five years.
