New Delhi, July 11 (KNN) The Goods and Services Tax (GST) that was enacted from July 1 is helping a great deal in saving in time and costs as there are lesser check posts now, said a study.

According to the findings of study conducted by industry body ASSOCHAM, on an average on a transport route, 24-36 trucking hours are being saved. Under the GST, different layers of check posts that used to assess VAT Octroi and other local taxes are now removed, which is buying time up to 24-36 hour in a shipment.

The industry body further points out that earlier there occurred massive corruption at each check post which would add an additional expenditure of 5000-7000 rupees on a shipment. But with the coming of One Nation One tax, this corruption is also eliminated and is being seen as a big relief to the sector.

The Industry body informed that earlier before a shipment took off, the driver and the helper were given cash so that they can avail clearance at different layers of the check post. On the completion of the shipment the driver used to give account of the spending on different posts. With the implementation of the GST, things are starting to change. (KNN/ DA)
