IIP registers nine month high of 4.3 per cent, positive numbers in mining-power sector: Data

New Delhi, Oct 13 (KNN) The Industrial production registered a nine-month high of 4.3 per cent in August backed with enhanced performance of mining and power sectors, the data Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation revealed.

Earlier the output during April-August period of this fiscal stood at 2.2 per cent down from 5.9 per cent in same period in 2016-17, that raised concerns among different stakeholders of the economy .

The data further suggested that the positive numbers is a result of increased output of higher capital goods.

Citing figures from the previous year, the data added that factory output growth measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) registered a 4 per cent in August in 2016.

Apart from this month's high figure, the previous high in IIP growth was recorded at 5.7 per cent in November  of 2016.

Citing sector wise figures, the data revealed that the output growth in manufacturing sector, which constitutes 77.63 per cent of the index, decelerated to 3.1 per cent in August from 5.5 per cent from the previous year.

Also the output of mining and electricity sectors grew at 9.4% and 8.3% as compared to August of the previous year.

The Data further informed that in terms of industries, 10 out of 23 industry groups in the manufacturing sector have shown positive growth during August 2017. (KNN/DA)
