New Delhi, May 17 (KNN) Industry-University relations being an important tool for the growth, a study is being conducted to explore and analyse the cooperation between universities and businesses worldwide.

A survey portal has also been launched inviting universities and businesses to be a part of it.

The Global University Engagement Monitor is part of an initiative designed to set a baseline for university-driven innovation and employment-oriented education worldwide. This study will provide a deeper understanding of how universities and higher educational institutes (HEI) engage externally to drive innovation, employment and knowledge societies.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Federation of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME) have partnered with the University Industry Innovation Network to pilot this in India.

The prime objective of the study is to determine the status quo of University and Business globally based on a number of factors. It further aims to describe the factors that facilitate or inhibit the cooperation to occur, from both academic and industry perspective.  The study will help identify some of the good practices of university business cooperation from across the world.

Also the study will establish the variables on which a successful relationship prosper and sustain.

The project is being conducted in partnership with organizations including Science Marketing, Technopolis Group, Munich Business School, University of Ljubljana, Eurochambers, Ingenio, Eurashe, university Industry Innovation Network and is being supported by the European Commission.

The study is being conducted keeping in mind the increased global competition and the need to align the higher education in line with the innovation and human resource supply chains of businesses.

Since the study is being conducted at an International level, it is expected to provide roadmap for the policy makers at the national level for the different countries participating in the study

The research extends to 10 months; it has already commenced in October last year and continues till August 2017. The first phase of the study i.e. literature review, designing of survey, pilot text, and online survey portal tests have completed successfully.

At present the study is in its second phase that involves collecting responses and building a database. Once the data is collected, it will be cleansed, analysed and a report will be prepared.

After the successful completion of study a report on International University Business Cooperation will be complied with recommendations for policy makers to look upon in order to facilitate a good relationship between the universities and the businesses. Also the report will have a 15 pointer good practice manual.

Findings and outcomes of the study will be presented at the 2018 University Industry Innovation Network Conference.
