Steps taken to simplify the E-way bill system

New Delhi, Mar 28 (KNN) With an aim to improve ease of doing business, government has been taking steps to simplify the E-way bill rules over some time in order to make the whole process simpler for the traders and transporters.

Government has already notified that for the inter-state movement of goods, E-way bill will be effective from April 1, 2018, till then e-way bill can be generated on the voluntary basis.

The e-way bill is mandatory to be generated only by those traders and transporters where the consignment value exceeds Rs 50,000/ which includes tax but doesn’t include value of exempted goods.

Further no e-way bill is required if the value of goods in an individual consignment is less than Rs 50,000 or total value of all such consignments is more than Rs 50,000 in a single conveyance.

Now even a job worker, supplier or registered job worker will be able to generate the e-way bill for the movement of goods from one state to other.

Also the supplier can give his or her authority rights to the transporter, courier agency and e-commerce operator to fill even Part-A of the e-way bill on his/her behalf.

According to the new rule book, if the distance between the principal place of business of the supplier to the place of the business of the transporter is less than 50 km, Part-B of the e-way bill is not required, only Part-A of e-way will be required to fill.

Further according to new rule book it has become mandatory to generate e-way bill for transportation of goods using railways, air or vessels by the registered supplier only and not by transporter and also required to be produced at the time of delivery.

The time-period for the recipient to communicate his acceptance or rejection of the consignment would be the validity period of the concerned e-way bill or 72 hours whichever is earlier.

The validity of e-way bill is one day up-to 100 km (20 km in case of over dimensional cargo) and for every 100 km or part thereafter, it is one additional day.

Transporters, traders can register on the portal of e-way bill namely http://ewaybillgst.gov.in by using GSTIN. (KNN/YV)
