MSMEs must adopt energy efficient methods: PHDCCI

New Delhi, July 20 (KNN) India cannot progress without the progress of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). They need to adopt energy efficient methods and technology without compromising quality, said Dr Ranjeet Mehta, Principal Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He was speaking at the seminar on ‘Importance of energy efficiency for MSMEs’ at the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi) Convention Centre in Dispur.

The seminar was organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry with support of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC).

The seminar was attended by MSMEs, officials from the public sector as well as government officials.

In his introductory remarks, Mehta highlighted the need to strengthen MSMEs, stating that India cannot progress without the progress of MSMEs.

He also stressed on the need to go for energy-efficient ways without compromising the quality.

Speaking at the seminar, Anju Bajaj, Chairperson, MSME Committee focused on the topic of the seminar and maintained that awareness among the entrepreneurs is necessary for implementing various ways of achieving energy efficiency.

Dwelling on the present power scenario of the country, Ranendra Sarma, General Manager, North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd, urged the participants at the seminar to go for renewable sources of energy, especially solar energy.

Focusing on the subject matter, M Sreenivasulu, Director, MSME-DI Guwahati spoke of a joint project that the Ministry of MSME has implemented to achieve energy efficiency in the tea cluster.

State Power Minister, Tapan Kumar Gogoi who was invited as the chief guest mentioned various steps that the State government has been taking to harness renewable sources of energy.

Madhurya Mahanta, an engineer at the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), gave a brief presentation on the facilities and schemes for power efficiency provided by the EESL – an energy service company for the Government of India.

Concluding the program, Bhaskar J Gogoi, Co-Chairman, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, NER, requested the entrepreneurs to come forward and avail the assistance provided by the Government of India as well as other agencies in developing the MSME sector of the country.
