DefExpo 2018 - Big Cos chosen yet again over MSMEs in tech transfer; sector feels disappointed

Chennai, Apr 11 (KNN) With the DefExpo 2018 kicking off in Chennai from tomorrow, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) attending the event raised disappointment with regard to government ignoring the sector, that has been promised a fair share, for tech transfer.

Talking to KNN, Pushpak Prakash, Chairman Defence Supplier Group of MSME body Federation of India Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME) said that the MSMEs were expecting a good number of MoUs with the Defence Ministry for transfer of technology.

"The MSMEs were waiting for the event eagerly, we have paid 2.5 lakhs each for applying for the tech transfer, but to our disappointment the agreements were handed over to the big companies", he said.

Prakash informed over 16 MSMEs were in line for consideration and not even one of them were considered by the government. Instead 29 big companies were given reference.

"One on hand the government says it is promotion the MSMEs but we are feeling ignored with none of us being entertained for it".

Upon approaching the DRDO officials who are at the expo we aren't being given even ten minutes to talk, Prakash lamented.

The expo extends for three days but the day one itself has shattered the hopes of MSMEs.

The micro small and medium enterprises in the sector are capable of handling the technology and manufacturing for the defence yet we aren't given chance.

With Prime Minister Modi scheduled to attend the event tomorrow, the MSMEs expect less for themselves, he added. (KNN/DA)
