Garment Park to be set up in Solapur; to boost employment in MSMEs: Textile Association (India)

Solapur, Jan 7 (KNN) The Garment Park worth Rs 300 crore will be set up in Solapur. According to the State Textile Minister the park will provide employment to over 60,000 workers in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

State Textile Minister Subash Deshmukh, while addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony of the first global uniform and garment manufacturer’s fair in Solapur, said that the government of Maharashtra will provide necessary infrastructure to successfully establish and launch it.

V D Zope, Chairman of Textile Association (India) told KNN that the city has already been a hub for textile industry, this park will create another milestone to its achievements.

“Solapur is an old city is famous for textile, it will be like beneficial for the city and state to grow further,” said V D Zope.

Further, he said that the garment park is being set up in order to promote the city as a garment and uniform hub of India. He also claimed that city textile industry manufactures uniform wear, mens wear and kids wear, and offers good quality products at competitive prices.

“It will help boost employment opportunities and enhance the production of the Textile industry,” added Zope.

According to State Textile minister Mr. Deshmukh, Narsing Girji Mill’s 27 acres of land has been identified as the place to set up the garment park. He also added that the garment park’s bhoomi pujan ceremony will be held on January 26, 2017.

Solapur has over 1,000 manufacturing units that employ over 60,000 skilled workers and contributes close to Rs 1,100 crore to the Rs 18,000 crore uniform industry of India.

The minister also said that the city in the state of Maharashtra is all set to become a textiles hub for armed forces and police uniforms. (KNN/RAS)
