Chennai, Mar 12 (KNN) Eyeing at equipping the manufacturing sector in the country including the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the government will establish four SAMARTH innovation centres in country’s top institutions, N Sivanand, Joint Secretary of Department of Heavy Industries said.

He made these remarks in his address during the International Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) in Chennai.

Sivanand further said that the he Smart and Advanced Manufacturing Rapid Transformation Hub (SAMARTH) centres would be focussing on increasing the competitiveness of Indian Industry especially the micro, small and medium enterprises.

The new innovation centres will help the domestic industry become both ‘smart’ and ‘global’, he added.

Sivanand further informed that India is in talks with Germany to help establish these centres.

The government's dedication to help realise the upcomign SAMARTH initiative can be seen from the fact that India has already began talks with Germany along the lines during the PM Modi's visit to Germany last year, he said.

Earlier, during the inaugural event, Tamil Nadu Deputy CM O Panneerselvam said the government is looking forward to invest USD 607 million over next two years for the development of heavy engineering sector. (KNN/DA)
