Ministry to curate database with info on all 6.7 crore MSMEs, will help innovate, progress: MSME Secretary A.K Panda

New Delhi, July 20 (KNN) In order to facilitate innovation at all levels of industry in the country, it is important to have a database in place listing all the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Arun Kumar Panda, MSME Secretary said earlier today.

Panda emphasized that whenever there is any scheme rolled out by the government for the sector, only a handful of MSMEs are able to derive benefit out of it, it is because the Ministry itself do not have a database through which it can establish direct link with the MSME entrepreneurs.

To address this concern his department is in the process of curating a database which is likely to be ready in the next six months.

Panda further said that the MSME sector in the country has huge potential, but it has to keep innovating in order to compete with its counterparts from countries such as China and Taiwan.

“This is an age of globalisation, our products have to compete with many high-tech industries from different as there is free and open trade, therefore one must keep innovating” said Panda.

Highlighting the importance of innovation, Panda outlined three important dimensions that are essential for the Indian MSMEs to focus on. This includes efficiency, quality and price.

Also the Secretary spoke of the need for a better collaboration between the State MSME department and the MSME Ministry at the Center so that the grass root MSMEs can avail the benefit of the various programs being run by the Government.

Panda was speaking at the International Workshop on Innovation and Internalisation Strategy” organized by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in association with Quality Council of India (QCI).

Key officials from GIZ and the MSME Ministry including Sec MSME, S.N Tripathi, AS, DC MSME and representatives from Industry Bodies and MSME clusters were present at the workshop. (KNN/ DA)
