PM Modi urges CPSEs to procure more from MSMEs, ensure timely payments to the sector

New Delhi, Apr 10 (KNN) Addressing a Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) conclave, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over little procurement being done from the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The Prime Minister urged the CPSEs to buy more from the micro, small and medium enterprises units.

Further, PM Modi instructed the CPSEs to make sure that timely payments are made to the MSMEs and that no delay in this regard happens.  During the conclave, the Prime Minister also gave a 100-day deadline to the heads of various CPSEs to come up with a development roadmap with measureable targets.

Earlier too, PM Modi have time and again expressed concern over the unfair procurement practices being followed.

Batting for procurement from domestic manufacturers, Prime Minister’s Office in a letter to the heads of various departments has urged to stick to the official procurement policy and consider procuring locally from the domestic manufacturers.

Earlier, Talking to KNN, H.S. Chopra, Managing Director, Data Technosys (Engineers) Pvt Ltd said that the MSMEs are not being treated fairly when it comes to getting involved in public procurement.

Chopra said that for any entrepreneur, there is only a certain amount of energy that it can invest towards seeking fair mechanism, after which the hopes are shattered and they give up.

“Fighting for a fair mechanism itself involves a lot of time and energy, and not every entrepreneur can do that”, he said.

He further informed that the bureaucratic layers that are involved in the procurement process makes it impossible for ‘transparency’ to penetrate. (With PIB Inputs) (KNN/DA)
