Banks threaten to go on strike on 7 February

New Delhi, Jan 21 (KNN) According to All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) if the government fails to meet their demands the banks will go on strike on February 7, 2017 across country.

“We will demonstrate across country on January 30, 2017, and will appeal the finance minister, for quick action against the demands, if not met then on February 7th there will be a one-day strike across country”, said S.Nagarajan, General Secretary of AIBOA.

Disclosing the reason behind the decision, he strongly made finance ministry responsible for taking over the controlling of the Reserve bank of India (RBI).

“RBI is an independent mechanism of 1935, like judiciary body but slowly that control is being pulled out and finance ministry has imposed themselves over it”, said Nagarajan to KNN.

Taking dig over central government he told KNN that government is interfering in the working of the RBI.

“If you see the statement given by the respected governor and also the actual thing happening at the grass root level have no similarities which indicates that somewhere government is interfering the working of the RBI”, claimed Nagarajan.

According to the associations their priority is demonetization and recovery of budging bad loans.

He also stressed over the need of more ATMs and withdrawal issues should be resolved with a view to fulfill the needs of the customer.

“ATM should be recalibrated. If banks have rupees 9.20 lakh crore still the money is not available to common man”, Nagarajan appealed.

Regarding the matter, “we have served the notice to IBA”, he added.

Apart from All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA), All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) will be part of the strike.

Bank employees demand complete removal of cash withdrawal restrictions imposed during demonetization period and safeguarding the autonomy of the RBI. (KNN)
