Fix an amount for every trader rather running VAT registration campaign: Traders Body

New Delhi, Mar 30 (KNN) In order to bring more traders under tax net in the capital, Delhi Government will run a large scale campaign from April to encourage the city's dealers, whose gross turnover is more than Rs 20 lakh annually, to register themselves with its VAT department. But the traders' body in Delhi suggested that Government should fix an amount for every unregistered trader mostly the micro and small units, which can help the Government to generate more revenue.
Talking to KNN, the Delhi Chairman of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Narendra Madan said that there are around more than one crore traders in Delhi out of which only 20 lakh are registered.
He suggested that Government should fix an amount for unregistered traders rather than running a campaign in various markets of the capital.
He, however, supported the campaign and said that people don’t register themselves to escape from the “unnecessary headache” created by the departments.
As per the plan, government will also gather intelligence inputs about dealers whose annual turnover is more than Rs 20 lakh but they have not registered themselves with the VAT Department in order to evade paying taxes. (KNN Bureau)
