Indian apparel-footwear industry must adapt safety standards: FRI

New Delhi, Aug 21 (KNN) The fashion industry in the country must go for safety standards in order to sustain the industry in a better manner, Fashion Revolution India  (FRI) said.

Suki Dusanj Lenz, Country Coordinator for Fashion Revolution India, in a press interview said that it is high time for the apparel as well as the footwear units and other sister sectors of the fashion industry to adapt to the latest global safety standards.

Lenz added that at present the industry in India still uses chemicals that are banned in rest of the world. These chemicals in the long run are hazardous both for the workers that work in the manufacturing units as well as for the environment at large.

Commenting upon the leathery industry of Kanpur, FRI added that the leather making industry in the region is highly vulnerable to different hazards. Also with no proper safety check mechanism, the workers are under threat of serious implications that might strike anytime.

Lenz made these remarks during a press interaction at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017 in Mumbai.

Fashion Revolution India (FRI) was established to unite the fashion industry and help change the way clothes are sourced, produced and distributed along the lines of safety and sustainability. (KNN/DA)
