Production and sale of Khadi following a positive trend: Giriraj Singh

New Delhi, July 26 (KNN) The production of Khadi products have increased in the last three years because of the increase in the sale of the product, MSME Minister Giriraj Singh informed Rajya Sabha earlier today.

Citing statistics the Minister informed that in the year 2014-15 the production of khadi stood at 879.98 crore rupees in terms of its market value, which increased to 1065.60 crore rupees in 2015-16. The production further accelerated to over 31 per cent amounting to 1395.94 crore rupees.

Referring to the increase in sales, Singh informed that the sale of Khadi stood at 1170.38 crore rupees in 2014-15, it increased to 1510 crore rupees in 2015-16. The sector witnessed a growth of 32.83 per cent in sales amounting to 2005.75 crore rupees in this financial year.

Singh listed the schemes rolled out by the government to promote Khadi and Village Industry Commission.

The government announced financial assistance for renovation and modernization of sales outlets under which 25 lakh per unit in urban areas and 20 lakh per unit in rural areas were provided support to upgrade the marketing infrastructure.

Also Modified Marketing Development Assistance (MMDA) of 30 per cent of prime cost of khadi products is being channelized to the Khadi Institutions.

The Minister listed the various MoUs signed between institutions and corporate houses including NIFT, Aditya Birla and Raymond to boost quality and sales of the products.

The Commission has taken steps to advertise and promote Khadi along with several exhibitions and khadi Melas at different levels in the country, the Minister added.
