India in a need of Comprehensive National E-commerce Policy: Rita Teatoia

New Delhi, Mar 15 (KNN) Aiming to tap the opportunities in the e-commerce segment, India needs a Comprehensive National e-Commerce Policy said Commerce Secretary, Rita Teaotia.

In an event organized by Industry body Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in conjunction with Amazon, Ms Teotia said that B2C (Business to Consumer) commerce transactions in India were growing at a faster pace at a CAGR of 34 percent.”

She said therefore one needs to be realistic while climbing aspirations seeing the low base growth patterns.

Speaking at the event Commerce Secretary said that country is not in a stage to tap opportunities offered by e-commerce industry.

He said therefore urgent need of an hour is to make sure that various arms of government remain on same page in order to capitalize business prospects in the digital space.

She further mentioned that in order to target the right population whether rural or urban there is a crying need to tackle challenges like financial penetration and inclusion, infrastructure for delivery of products and unstable supply of power.

Talking about sustainable growth and development of e-commerce sector, Ministry of MSME Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner Ram Mohan Mishra said it is important to bring inclusivity along with sensitivity to move forward with the technological advancement.
