KVIC to distribute 75000 bee-boxes to promote bee keeping-employment
New Delhi, Oct 17 (KNN) Eyeing towards the promotion of bee keeping in the country, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) plans to distribute 75000 new bee-boxes across different states in the country.
KVIC in a statement informed that the commission will be giving out bee-boxes in different regions including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, the Narmada Valley in Madhya Pradesh, Bharatpur district in Rajasthan.
The initiative by KVIC expects to generate around over 50,000 jobs. Also as a part of the initiative the commission has already given over 500 bee-boxes among tribal families in the village of Arawali district of Gujarat.
Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman of KVIC in a press interview informed that professional beekeeping by trained people is expected tol supplement the annual income of the peole involved in the business by Rs.50,000.
Also the program is to prove instrumental towards protecting the flora and fauna of the regions.
He further said that China collects honey from over one crore bee boxes while India has only 12 lakh bee boxes.
The main target of KVIC is to distribute 1.25 lakh boxes next year and aim to reach an overall target of one crore boxes over the next few years, he added. (KNN/AG)
