Logistic sector to be a biggest generator of job in coming years: Report

New Delhi, May 25 (KNN) Logistic sector in India is likely to create 3 million new jobs over the next four years, mainly driven by GST implementation and significant investment in infrastructure, said a Teamlease report.

According to report titled ‘Indian Logistics Revolution-Big Bets, Big Jobs’, the seven sub-sectors namely road freight, rail freight, warehousing, waterways, air freight, packaging and courier services will create significant number of jobs .

Quantifying the number, the report highlighted that the Road Freight will contribute in creating 1.89 million jobs, while around 400,000 incremental jobs will be created in Airways.

However, the other sub-sectors namely waterways will produce 450,000 incremental jobs while the Rail Freight will create 40,000 jobs.

“Technology is having a profound impact on the logistics sector making certain skills redundant, forcing the aggregation of some other skills and eliminating certain jobs at the lower end of the hierarchy”, the report added.

Further, it added that the Logistics sector is going through an exciting phase with number of public investments in line

Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmadabad and Karnataka are the regions that will create 2/3rd of these jobs, the report said.

Furthermore, nearly 43 percent of these logistics jobs will be generated in the rural areas and tier-two and tier-three cities, it added.
