Ministry working towards eliminating hurdles faced by MSMEs in defence sector: Sitharaman

New Delhi, Nov 20 (KNN) The manufacturing companies should be futuristic in meeting the demands of the defence sector said Defence Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday while attending a CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) event in Chennai. She highlighted the importance of promoting the critical components and service parts sector to meet the needs of Indian armed forces.

The Minister said that the all the hurdles faced by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the defence sector would  be removed and assured that she would facilitate a meeting of the army, navy and air force, the CII and state government to ensure development in  the defence sector.

The CII members stressed on the need for Centre intervention to help MSMEs which find difficult to operate or bag orders from the defence industry.

Speaking at another interactive session organized by the industry body The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) on Friday, she said that MSMEs should produce parts for those assets which were already available.

The defence Minister also said that the soldiers working in most tough conditions lack high-tech equipment which could ease their hardships.

She added that all the stakeholders, including the government, defence experts and the industry should work together to find out what the defence sector lacks  and what was futuristic and efforts should be made to make technologically advanced products. (KNN/AG)
