New Delhi, Sept 25 (KNN) The sales of Khadi have registered an upward trend in the recent times, with the rising interest in the Khadi products. This has led to fresh impetus as well as opened fair job opportunities in the sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

In his address to the nation, Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of Khadi more than a fabric, but an idea and a principle.

PM Modi recalled that earlier in one of the episodes of Mann Ki Baat, he had mentioned about Khadi, following which the interest towards the sector has increased to great extent.

“I was not asking people to makeover into wearing Khadi permanently; rather, since there are a number of fabrics then why not Khadi also be one of the fabrics of your choice? May be a bed-sheet in the house, a handkerchief or a curtain,”, the PM added.

Commenting on the need to further strengthen the sector, the Prime Minister said that it is important to explore newer ways to increase the productivity of the Khadi sector. Also solar powered looms can be the way forward in infusing latest technology with an age-old fabric production. (KNN/DA)
