To promote entrepreneurship, Delhi’s Jamia University to start Make in Jamia under ASPIRE
New Delhi, Dec 12 (KNN) In an attempt to promote entrepreneurship at the local level, Delhi based central university Jamia Millia Islamia is to run Make in Jamia campaign, under the ASPIRE initiative of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
For now the business incubator is exploring possibilities of making different items including bread, mineral water, spices etc. Also a tailoring and machine embroidery system has also been set to manufacture items including school uniforms for the students of the adjoining school.
The functioning bakery at present is being run with students being trained to use the machinery, cook bakery items including cakes, bread and biscuits
Zishan Khan, Head at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Jamia Millia in a press interview said that the university itself provides for a fair market, with such system in place, a conducive entrepreneurial ecosystem is expected to emerge.
With a prototype and incubator in place, the students enrolled in the program are expected to learn the expertise and then start their own units elsewhere.
Once the bakery starts manufacturing, the university will set up kiosks and market the products in the university and the adjoining community area, he informed.
Under the livelihood Business Incubation model provision of the ASPIRE scheme, the main objective is to set up business incubators to incubate, impart entrepreneurship, skill development training to youth, mentoring and hand holding with facilitation for funding with a view to empower them to set up own business enterprises, the release on the MSME portal says. The focus area under the livelihood incubation is to take up those commercial activities which are already established to create enterprises on a large scale. (KNN/ DA)
