Punjab Elections: With industries un-impressed with any party in state, who will win Punjab?

Chandigarh, Feb 4 (KNN) As Punjab goes for polling today, all political parties are quite optimistic about their wins. However, if we talk about the industry association in the industrial state of Punjab, they said none of the parties were able to impress them through their manifestos.

So it is for us to wait and watch that who does the Punjab citizens vote for.

KNN spoke to various industry associations in Punjab to know what they have to say about their views on parties.

While talking with KNN, SC Ralhan, President of Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) said mere passing manifestos have nothing to do with the development of the sector, there should be implementation of the announcements.

“Manifestos are being introduced just to influence the voters. Election authority must ensure that whatever parties are claiming in their manifestos should become a legal document,” said Ralhan, FIEO.

According to Mohali Industries Association (MIA), Congress’ manifesto has something for the MSMEs but association expressed its dis-satisfaction regarding the attitude of parties towards industrialization.

“Congress has something, but on larger aspect parties have ignored the MSMEs,” said Jasbir Singh, President of MIA.

With a view to aid the workers, he said that there should be reduction in the rate of the provident fund of the workers.

“Even after throwing everything, worker of the industries has been hit by heavy deduction from their salaries in the form of ESIC & PFs, that is nearly 14%,” added Singh.

“Departments like electricity, income tax etc force industry to take illegal paths like giving bribes. Government has failed to stop corruption”, claimed Singh.

According to the president of Ludhiana Wholesale Cycle Part Dealer Association (LWCPDA), besides manifestos government should also consider that major portion of the society has been affected by the demonetization.

“Every party promises big but they should consider that our business is based on cash. For the sake of 20 people government has nearly killed the business of 80 people”, said Annand Kumar, president, LWCPDA.

As he doesn’t seem impressed with the manifestos, he suggested that government should pay attention towards working system of the MSMEs.

Stressing over the tax slabs to be in the favor of industries, he said that government should introduce some scheme to revise the income tax slab based over the industries size.

According to him, the tax slab should be revised, “it will further benefit the industries and cut down the tax evasions as well,” Kumar added.

“No manifesto has influence the MSME sector, as the association has been fighting a case for the last 15 years against the PPT scheme, “government has done nothing which favored the industrial sector,” added Surjit Singh, President, SSIA (Small Scale Industries Association).

Fastener Manufacturer Association of India (FMAI) told KNN that there is no hearing of the industries before the government. Chairman of FMAI said state government always thinks of its own benefits.

“Though Ludhiana is an industrial hub for the state still it has no international airport facility which makes it hard for the business to reach here”, said Mohinder Paul Jain, chairman, FMAI.

He also stressed over the plight conditions of the roads connectivity in the states.

“Hotels built for the entrepreneur come from abroad are very far and it takes more than 2 hours to reach us due to bad roads”, said Mohinder Paul. (KNN/ RAS)
