UP Govt set to launch ODOP to promote traditional MSMEs

Lucknow, Jan 16 (KNN) In a move to give a push to traditional industries in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the ambitious One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme soon.

UP has many cities/ districts which are famous world wide for their traditional industries like Moradabad for Brass, Lucknow for Chikan work, Banaras for Banarasi Silk, Meerut for sports goods etc. These industries are mostly the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) which have a huge share in the state’s economy.

The state is all set to host the UP Investors' Summit next month.

Adityanath has been pushing for ODOP theme order to boost the local industries.

The state government wants to help the district-specific industries and products gain national and international recognition through branding, marketing support and easy credit.

ODOP is basically a Japanese business development concept, which gained prominence in 1979.

It is aimed at promoting a competitive and staple product from a specific area to push sales and improve the standard of living of the local population. Over time, it has been replicated in other Asian countries as well.
