West Bengal leads MSME space, Uttar Pradesh - Maharashtra follows: Reports

New Delhi, Jan 17 (KNN) The state of West Bengal is performing well in terms of the number of Micro, Small and medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state, news agencies reported.

Quoting officials from West Bengal MSME Department, the report informed hat West Bengal has the highest number of MSMEs in the country with over 52,69,814 units.

In terms of its overall share, the state scoops 11.62 per cent of the MSMEs in the country. Uttar Pradesh ranked second after West Bengal, followed by Maharashtra.

Commenting on the numbers, MSME Secretary Rajiv Sinha hailed the steps taken by the state government towards enabling an MSME friendly ecosystem in the country.

He further said that with a strong MSME sector in place, it offers huge scope for large industries as well.

Also according to a 2017 report, West Bengal recorded the biggest bank credit flow to the MSME sector in the last five years amounting to USD 15 billion.

Also the state of West Bengal currently is placed on the top position the list of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion's Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) 2017, that assesses all the states and Union Territories in the country. (KNN/DA)
