Jammu industries not in favour of removing Toll Naka from Lakhanpur

Jammu, Sept 18 (KNN) The MSMEs from Jammu’s Bari Brahmana Industrial Area  raised concerns over demands being raised to do away with the Lakhanpur Toll Tax Booth which they consider “Safeguard” measure to protect the region from import/ export of unaccounted goods.

A meeting of Executive Committee members of Federation of Industries Jammu (FOIJ) was held in this regard under the Chairmanship of Rajesh Jain.

The members of FOIJ said, “Industrialists in the meeting raised serious concern in respect of repeated attempts of some people raising their voice for the removal of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur.”

“This would allow import/export of unaccounted goods in/from the State which may be resulting into huge financial loss to the State Exchequers as well as to the Industrial Sector of J&K who are working in our States in spite of all the odds as they are facing stiff competition from the Manufacturers/ Traders from outside the State,” FOIJ said.

The members of the association mentioned that Toll Tax at Lakhanpur is a safeguard for the Industrial Sector of J&K to check the Import/Export of Unaccounted Goods, Contraband & other banned items to & fro from other parts of the country.

They said if the Government withdraws the Toll Tax at Lakhanpur Checkpost, the whole State shall be flooded with the uncounted goods and other related material which will prove as death nail for the Industrial Sector of the State.

The members said industries will be worst sufferers.

“It was strongly resolved in the meeting that Governmentt should not remove Toll Tax Checkpost at Lakhanpur and the Toll Exemptions should be continued in GST Regime to the Existing as well as New Industrial Units to compensate the additional transportation cost on the Raw Materials and Finished Goods,” FOIJ said.

The association also clarified that the Industrial Sector of J&K is not a part and parcel of any organization who gave Bandh Call on this issue.

FOIJ has urged Mehbooba Mufti, J&K Chief Minister and other state ministers to kindly intervene into the matter to ensure that the Toll Tax at Lakhanpur should be continued for the safety of J&K Industrial Sector.
