KCTU to seek inputs from industry associations over possibilities of setting up a Plastic Park in K’taka

Bengaluru, June 19 (KNN) The Centre has asked Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation (KCTU) to seek inputs from Industry Associations and DIC over possibilities of setting up a Plastic Park in the state.

The Indian Plastics industry is large but highly fragmented with dominance of MSME units.

The Government has a Scheme for setting up of need based Plastic Parks, with requisite state-of-the-art infrastructure and enabling common facilities, to assist the sector move up the value chain and contribute to the economy more effectively.

Under the scheme, Government of India provides grant funding up to 50% of the project cost, subject to a ceiling of Rs.40 crore per project.

The objectives of the scheme are to increase competitiveness and investments, achieve environmentally sustainable growth and adopt the cluster development approach to consolidate the capacities in plastic sector. 

Implementation of the scheme for setting up of Plastic Parks in an area is based on proposals received from the State Governments, in accordance with the approved scheme guidelines. 

In this context, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizer has asked KCTU to get the inputs from the Industrial Associations and Joint Director, DIC to examine the possibilities of the park on priority basis.

So far, four plastic parks -- one each in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam and Tamil Nadu -- are under implementation.

The six parks remaining were to come up in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and West Bengal -- are still under the process of approval. (KNN Bureau)
