Revealing that there are chances that the GST refund claims may be automated in future, Revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia today said that the government is working hard to identify the issues with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.

GST Council’s next meeting is scheduled to be held on July 21, where a decision on several aspects will be taken and this aspect could also be finalised.

Adhia said, “Although there are several technical issues that need to be smoothened, the nation has come a long way since the implementation of the biggest tax reform India has seen,”

He went on to add that GST is an example of the fact that the bureaucracy is quite capable and has a clear direction.

Adhia said that the GST Council will consider bringing petroleum products under GST and it could happen in phases.

Currently, diesel, petrol, crude oil, natural gas and aviation turbine fuel are outside the purview of goods and services tax, and states have the right to impose value added tax on these items.

The Revenue Secretary also lauded the businessmen for contributing in GST reforms. He said the business people played their roles quite well. (KNN Bureau)
