Deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar extended till March 31, 2021

New Delhi, June 25 (KNN) The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for linking Permanent Account Number (PAN) card with Aadhaar card, failing which all such PAN cards which are not linked to Aadhaar would be useless and declared "inoperative" after the deadline ends.

The date for linking PAN card with Aadhaar card has further been extended to March 31, 2021. The previous deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar was June 30, 2020.

The process of linking PAN card with Aadhaar card online is explained below:

   --- 1. Tax payers have to first register on the Income tax e-Filing portal
   --- 2. Log in to the e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department by entering the log-in ID, password and date of birth
   --- 3. A code needs to be filled in
   --- 4. A pop up window will appear, prompting to link your PAN card with Aadhaar card
   --- 5. If not, go to Profile setting and opt the “Link Adhaar” button
   --- 6. Put the details such as name, date of birth and gender. It will be already mentioned by you during registration on the e-Filing portal
   --- 7. Verify the details on screen with the ones mentioned on your Aadhaar card
   --- 8. If the details match, enter Aadhaar card number and click on the “link now” button.

One the linking is done successfully, a message will come that the Aadhaar card has been successfully linked to your PAN card. (KNN Bureau)
