Number of factories highest in Tamil Nadu followed by Maharashtra: Report

New Delhi, Mar 12 (KNN) The southern state of Tamil Nadu is the most industrialized state with 37220 number of factories as on FY 2016-17, according to a report released by the Reserve Bank of India.

However, in terms of invested capital and productive capital, Gujarat followed by Maharashtra takes the top position.

As per the fourth edition of statistical publication titled ‘Handbook of Statistics on Indian States 2018-19’, Tamil Nadu tops the list of states accounting for 15.84 per cent of total number of factories in the country as on FY 2016-17, followed by Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The least industrialized states of India includes Andaman & Nicobar with 18 factories, Sikkim with 71 units, followed by Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

While India’s most polluted city Delhi was home to 3507 number of factories in the year 2016-17.

According to the fourth census done in 2006-07, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of SMEs followed by West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. (KNN/YV)
