Habsiguda, Nov 11 (KNN) Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Director Rakesh Mishra has said that the later has extended support to 50 Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under the Common Research and Technology Development Hubs (CRTDHs) programme.

To mark the fifth anniversary of the establishment of Common Research and Technology Development Hubs (CRDTH) next month, the two-day conclave was organised at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) at Habsiguda.

CCMB Director Rakesh Mishra said they help the MSMEs and startups to meet consultants and investors. Earlier, only findings of research at the CCMB were developed into products. Now, the ideas are incubated in the hubs.

So far, 12 CRTDHs have been established across the country which provides facilities to research institutes and enterprises for translation of scientific knowledge, ideas, and inventions into products and services.

These are availed by the MSMEs innovators and start-ups. The CRTDHs operate on a cost plus non-commercial basis and are evolving a business model for self-sustainability.

They need to be sensitized towards the translation of public-funded R&D into products and processes. The higher involvement is expected to enhance the private sector's share in national R&D expenditure from the present level of about 30-35% to over 50%.

In 2014-15, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) launched CRTDHs in public-funded institutions having linkages with and proximity to MSME clusters.

The conclave was inaugurated by Dr Shekhar C Mande, Secretary, DSIR and DG CSIR.
