BHEL Trichy To Upskill Vendor MSME Workforce To Meet Higher Standards

Tiruchirappalli, Apr 3 (KNN) BHEL Trichy complex plans to support the upskilling of workers in regional ancillary units to ensure high-quality product supply, as its outsourced annual product requirement has surpassed 2.4 lakh metric tonnes.

The manufacturing unit has also committed to assisting MSMEs that need loans to revitalise their production capabilities.

Specifically, BHEL Trichy will enhance welder qualifications through its Welding Research Institute, recognising that welders require advanced skillsets for quality production.

Welders and fitters represent two major worker categories in the ancillary units that supply components to BHEL.

The total orders placed with BHEL across India have exceeded Rs 1.7 lakh crore, with the power sector alone accounting for 75 per cent of new orders.

While BHEL Trichy's outsourcing department previously engaged more than 300 vendors, this number has now decreased to 120, prompting the factory to emphasise the need for additional MSMEs to fulfil pending orders.

To address capital requirements for modernising production facilities and upgrading machinery, BHEL Trichy has announced that loans will be arranged for MSME units through the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

The department has already conducted two meetings with vendors to communicate their requirements.

Officials have indicated that existing orders will keep the BHEL Trichy unit occupied for at least the next five years.

Sources revealed that priority in outsourcing components will be given to local MSMEs, with vendors from other states being approached only if local capacity is insufficient to meet demands.
