All 4 wage related codes are criminal assault on the rights of labour: CITU

New Delhi, Aug 16 (KNN) The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has condemned the hasty move of the Government on so called labour-law reforms which are all designed to replace the existing labour laws by four labour codes, meticulously removing and/or grossly diluting all rights and provisions of protection for workers in the existing labour laws, said Tapan Sen, General Secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions.

Speaking with KNN India, Tapan Sen said “All the codes are criminal assault on the rights of labours.”

He stated that the Government has selectively lifted the provisions of earlier bills which are advantageous to the employers and particularly provisions that are advantageous to labour rights or protections of labout either they have been removed or extremely diluted. Thereby making the law absolutely toothless.

Sen said that Government is talking about ease of doing business but not about ease of human survival or workers who actively create the GDP value of Country, while rest are enjoying it as free lunch.

According to Labour Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar the new Code on Wages are going to benefit about 50 crore workers in the country.

He also added that the bill has ensured that there will not be any discrimination between male and female in getting wages.

The Code on Wages Bill, 2019 was passed in the Rajya Sabha on August 2 while Lok Sabha passed the bill on July 30, 2019
