GoI extends deadline for re-export of high-quality containers used for oxygen till 30 Sept

New Delhi, Jan 25 (KNN) The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the deadline to 30th September for re-export of high-quality containers used for transportation of liquid medical oxygen till during the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

A representation from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) was sent to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) for providing relaxations in the re-export of ISO containers imported temporarily for combating the Covid pandemic.

Due to the inherent advantage related to multi-modal transportation (by road/rail/waterways/airways) the high quality containers  have been used for efficient transportation of liquid medical oxygen.

Currently, containers are allowed to be imported duty-free with the condition of re-export in the next six months, said the CBIC circular.

Import duty will be levied on such containers if they are not re-exported within six months or the time limit as given by the CBIC.

This is with regards to the massive surge in oxygen demand during the deadly second Covid wave hit the country in April-May last year which led the government to taking measures in increasing oxygen availability across the country.
