Govt committed to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods to people: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, Mar 27 (KNN) Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said the government is committed to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods to the public amid lockdown.

The Minister took to micro blogging site twitter and said that held a video conference with stakeholders from e-Commerce and Logistics industry.

"Had a video conference with stakeholders from e-commerce & logistics industry regarding the issues faced due to #COVID2019 lockdown & discussed measures to resolve them. We are committed to ensuring that essential goods reach the people in the most convenient and safest manner," he tweeted.

As per the release from Commerce and Industry, the meeting was attended by representatives of following e-Commerce Companies: Snapdeals, Shopclues, Flipkart, Grofers, NetMeds, PharmEasy, 1MG Tech, Udaan, Amazon India, Big Basket, Zomato. 

Metro Cash & Carry, Walmart, RPG were some of the large retail operators while Express Industry Council,  Delihivery,  Safexpress,  PayTM, Swiggy represented logistics operators

Earlier in the day, the Ministry has set up a help desk to deal with export- and import-related issues arising due the COVID-19 outbreak.

''For any COVID-19 related Export or Import issue, a Helpdesk has been operationalized by Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT),'' it said.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has also set up a control room to monitor the delivery of essential commodities amid crippled situation across the country due to coronavirus outbreak.

''In the event of any manufacturing, transporter, distributor, wholesaler or e-commerce companies facing ground level difficulties in transportation and distribution of goods or mobilization of resources, the same may be informed to the Department at the following telephone number/ email:-Telephone: + 91  11 23062487, Email  :  controlroom-dpiit@gov.in,'' DPIIT had said in a statement on Thursday.
