Two reports on utilizing potential of technical textiles ready for consideration of new govt: Textile Secretary

Coimbatore, Apr 25 (KNN) The Textile Ministry has prepared two reports on how to utilize the potential of technical textiles for the consideration of the new government at the Centre, said Textile Secretary.

Speaking at the National Conclave on Technical Textiles here, Textile Secretary, Raghvendra Singh said “The ministry has entrusted the task of preparing the reports to two organizations, including the NITI Aayog. Both the reports are ready for being forwarded to the new government next month.”

Reports focuses on the special utility of the technical textiles and on how to enhance this for other products, he added.

Besides this, he pointed “Though there was a great potential for the technical textiles, the industry was yet to tap it. It needed to carry out a baseline survey to get the exact data.”

Another major need is skilling the people in the sector. The ministry plans to use the NTC Mills, some of which are lying idle, for this purpose, Singh added.

Addressing the gathering, DRDO Life Sciences Director General, Ajay Kumar Singh said that there is tremendous potential for technical textile in the defence sector and also’ agriculture sectors, particularly for the use of soldiers and aircraft.

The conclave was organized by Indian Technical Textile Association, Southern India Mills Association and Indian Texpreneurs Federation, in which nearly 200 delegates participated.
