Expo to promote coir & its uses underway in Guwahati till March 26

Guwahati, Mar 24 (KNN) The four-day expo to promote coir and its uses is underway at Jyotichitraban Kahilipara in Guwahati till March 26, 2023.
The event which began on March 23 is being organised by the Coir Board with the support of Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise.
The expo was inaugurated by D Kuppuramu, Chairman of the Coir Board, along with Lakshmanan S, IAS (Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Govt of Assam), and Jitendra Kumar Shukla, Secretary of the Coir Board.
Currently, the coir industry provides employment to over 7 lakh workers, predominantly women, across different states in India. Women in the Industry account for 80 per cent of the workforce.
In the year 2020-21, India's export of coir and coir products reached an all-time high record of Rs 3,778.98 crores, witnessing an increase of over Rs 1,021 crores from the previous year.
The growing demand for environmentally friendly products has further boosted the demand for coir and coir products in domestic as well as foreign markets. (KNN Bureau)
